The oldest dog in the rescue service is so surprised that she threw a party on the occasion of her 23rd birthday
Since his birth in 1999, Bulli has lived through five presidential terms, the launch of the first iPhone, the advent of social media, and many other historical events, but the chihuahua probably can’t tell you about any of them.
But when the little dog recently turned 23, his owners celebrated the milestone with a party he’ll remember for years to come.
The dog spent the first 21 years of his life in a loving family, enjoying the company of his people, playing outside, and running in the local park. When his elderly owner could no longer take care of him, the super-senior found his way into the Mr. Mo Project, an older dog rescue company run by Chris Hughes and his wife.
The dog was described by his former owner as «a big dog in the body of a small dog» and Hughes quickly discovered that despite Bully’s advanced age, he hadn’t changed a bit.
«he is cocky, naughty, sweet, independent, gentle, calm.»Even at his age, he enjoys trying to boss around with another one of our Chihuahuas.»
Now that Bully has grown up, he needs more rest than a normal puppy. «Bully loves to sleep and he deserves that right,» Hughes said. “He will fall asleep anywhere, sometimes in the middle of the kitchen floor, on the potty, or the biggest and most comfortable bed in the corner.”
For Bully’s birthday, the Hughes family decorated their house in honor of the little dog and gave him two things he loves more than anything — treats and sleep. «He doesn’t have too many teeth, so we took a soft cookie and crushed it for him to enjoy,» Hughes said.
Hughes makes sure that all senior dogs in his care feel special by throwing parties to celebrate every possible occasion with them.
“We try to celebrate all the wonderful things that happen in our house because not so good things happen so often,” Hughes said. «We celebrate when dogs finish chemo, birthdays, adoptions, and famously Christmas in July if we think someone won’t make it to Christmas.»
Thanks to the Hughes family, Bully will have many more holidays to look forward to. And at 23, he deserves it.
